Our Community Driven Design Process

Our Community Design Team is made of students, families and community stakeholders.

The community driven process emphasizes collaboration, inclusivity, and the recognition of unique insights and perspectives community members bring, while building a sense of collective ownership and pride!

In partnership with Transcend Education, our team has co-created crucial elements of our innovative Launch High School including:

  • School & System Elements

  • Student Experience

  • Goals & Guiding Concepts

Community and Work Based Learning Partners

Launch High School students will learn alongside experts from our community partners. These organizations will provide students direct access to hands on community based learning, career exploration, and work-based learning.

With The Campaign Against Hunger- Students will manage our 3 acre urban farm, learning about sustainable agricultural while feeding hungry New Yorkers

With the Billion Oyster Project- students will repopulate New York Harbor with 1 billion oysters while exploring opportunities in Marine Biology and Marine Advocacy

With SolarOne – Students will learn how to build and maintain solar panels, preparing for careers in the Solar industry

With NY Sun Works- students will operate world-class aquaponic and hydroponics farms

With NYC Outward Bound- students will build leadership and teamwork through adventures on campsites and ropes courses

With JBRPC – Students will learn how to become stewards for Jamaica Bay and our world

Our "Learning Ecosystem" Model

Learning ecosystems offer a different approach to teaching and learning.

A learning ecosystem is an innovative school model design where students learn from their communities through hands-on, real world experiences. It required the intentional collaboration between community stakeholders across various learning sites to provide learner-centered experiences that support broad outcomes. In a learning ecosystem:

  • Learning is supported by many

  • Learning can happen almost anywhere

  • Learning targets a broad range of skills
