At Launch High School, learning does not just happen in the classroom. Our programs are designed to connect students with their communities, real-world opportunities, and skills that prepare them for success in college, careers, and life. With personalized pathways and hands-on learning, students lead their journey toward meaningful futures.

At Launch, we believe learning happens everywhere. That’s why our curriculum includes learning experiences both in and out of the classroom:

  • Participate in project-based learning that connects academic concepts to real-world applications.
  • Collaborate with peers, teachers, and community partners to address pressing environmental and social issues.
  • Join field-based expeditions, such as navigating sustainability challenges at Floyd Bennett Field or designing climate solutions for local communities.

Our approach to education ensures every student develops the essential skills and mindsets to thrive in college, career, and beyond. 

  • Build key competencies skills, such as problem-solving, collaboration, and wellness
  • Set your own goals and track progress at your own pace, supported by expert educators and mentors.
  • Showcase your learning through authentic assessments including: interdisciplinary passion projects, student-led conferences, and presentations of learning.

Launch High School students will experience unmatched opportunities to connect with experts, solve real-world problems, build practical skills, and network with industry leaders. 

  • Work with community partners like the National Park Service to preserve and restore ecologically rich parklands.
  • Collaborate with the Billion Oyster Project to repopulate New York Harbor. 
  • Work with SolarOne to gain hands-on skills in solar technology.
  • Engage in sustainable urban agriculture with NY Sun Works and The Campaign Against Hunger, while feeding hungry New Yorkers. 

We prepare students to thrive in college and the growing green economy through immersive, career-connected pathways in: Urban Agriculture, Green Energy, and Marine Sciences. Each pathway offers opportunities to earn professional credentials or badges that demonstrate your expertise to future employers and colleges

Every student at Launch High School is part of a "Crew" — a small group advisory that remains together throughout all four years. This unique structure fosters a sense of belonging and provides a stable foundation for academic, personal growth and college & career coaching. 

  • Crew groups cultivate strong relationships and a supportive community, continuing the tradition from Launch Middle School.
  •  Each Crew is led by two dedicated advisors who serves as a mentors, helping students set goals, track their progress, and develop life skills.
  • Crew Activities focus on teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Early Crew sessions emphasize academics and personal development, while upper-grade Crews pivot to college and career readiness.

Launch High School prioritizes the personal development and well-being of all our students, ensuring each learner has the tools to succeed.

  • Every student is supported by a team of advisors, including an academic coach, a social-emotional coach, and a career coach, who provide tailored guidance.

Athletics at Launch High School are about more than competition—they’re about teamwork, discipline, and school pride. Our programs include a wide range of sports, supported by top-notch facilities and experienced coaches, ensuring students excel both on and off the field.

What is a "Learning Ecosystem"?

A learning ecosystem is a dynamic educational model that goes beyond classroom walls, connecting students with their communities to engage in hands-on, practical learning. It is built on the principle of collaboration among community stakeholders to create learner-centered opportunities that foster a wide range of skills and outcomes.

In our Learning Ecosystem:

  • Learning is Collective: A diverse network of educators, community partners, and experts support student growth.
  • Learning Happens Everywhere: From nature reserves to urban farms, every space becomes a classroom.
  • Learning is Comprehensive: Students gain practical skills in sustainability, science, cultural arts, and more, preparing them for the challenges of the real world.

Launch High School students will learn alongside experts from our community partners. These organizations will provide students direct access to hands on community based learning, career exploration, and work-based learning.

With The Campaign Against Hunger- Students will manage our 3 acre urban farm, learning about sustainable agricultural while feeding hungry New Yorkers

With the Billion Oyster Project- students will repopulate New York Harbor with 1 billion oysters while exploring opportunities in Marine Biology and Marine Advocacy

 

With SolarOne – Students will learn how to build and maintain solar panels, preparing for careers in the Solar industry

With NY Sun Works- students will operate world-class aquaponic and hydroponics farms

With NYC Outward Bound- students will build leadership and teamwork through adventures on campsites and ropes courses

With The Science and Resilience Institute at Jamaica Bay – Students will learn how to become stewards for Jamaica Bay and our world

 

Runway Green is a pioneering non-profit organization dedicated to reimagining education and workforce development for the green economy. In partnership with the National Park Service, Runway Green is building an experiential learning ecosystems on Brooklyn’s Floyd Bennett Field. As a partner to Launch High School, Runway Green provides students with transformative opportunities to engage in hands-on sustainability projects, career training, and community-driven environmental solutions.
